CIRCUITOS DE ARTES PLÁSTICAS, 2016
Show of the awarded projects at the 27th edition of this call promoted by the Region of Madrd
The Circuitos exhibition is the end result of the 17th edition of the event organised by the Region of Madrid to foster young art within its area of influence. The initiative is aimed at promoting art creation and at introducing the wider public to the happening art practices of the moment.
The ten projects showcased in the exhibition were selected by an independent jury after an open call. Taken as a whole, they reflect the heterogeneous nature that underwrites creativity today, characterised by artists’ mobility and ready access to information. The works on display at Circuitos 2016 comment on issues affecting the past, present and future, interconnecting these different timeframes without compromising or undermining a rigorous record of time, each one through the particular language of the individual artist. The ten artists taking part in the show address subjects related to documents and the archive, archaeology, anthropology and the Anthropocene; nature, the dilemmas of language, the present with all its blunders, the reinterpretation of handcrafts; the poetics of the real bordering on fantasy, where the two realms interact boldly yet at once fluidly; where linguistic shifts, transposed to a visual language, colour our way of communicating … or the difficulties involved in trying to do it within the context of a contemporary narrative dominated by the displacement from reasoning to experimentation within the working process. The recourses for the story are increasingly wider, today’s creators have more chances to access, process, construct and disseminate information through a greater control of manifold visual languages, which is absolutely critical when it comes to presenting their artistic work.
Circuitos is presented at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial thanks to the collaboration of the Principality of Asturias, together with an exhibition organised specifically for Sala Borrón in Oviedo.
The two shows are mutually complementary and double the artists’ potential for development and the spectators’ possibilities for enjoyment.
