Circuitos de Artes Plásticas 2017 is an exhibition project showing the works of the artists selected in the 2017 edition of the public call that grants production grants to ten artists under 35 living in Madrid and organized by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with the Principality of Asturias and LABoral Centro de Arte.

This XXVIII edition, curated by Carlos Delgado Mayordomo, offers a very complete panorama of the variety of current artistic practices, from different aesthetic and conceptual positions.

The artists selected for this year’s edition of Circuitos de Artes Plásticas work with very different aesthetic and conceptual approaches, though it is also true that they all work with their context in order to question normative models that affect such different fields as gender, work, memory, territory, power, corruption and madness. At once, they also address their respective discourses with a certain degree of scepticism, keenly aware that the idea of a form of art truly able to pose resistance to power entails not a few contradictions. Their dissection of the body under analysis does not wish to slit it wide open and impose a predictable, explicit interpretation. On the contrary, their ways of engaging with it are lateral and strategic, while the tools they use seek to extract critical power from its apparent ineffectiveness: conversation, copy, concealment, humour, absurdity, science fiction, ornament and the act of walking are just some of the recourses used to probe the ambivalences of the social weave they inhabit.
The end result is an exhibition that adumbrates highly heterogeneous formal and thematic horizons. The generational frame, their desire to expand the field of the visual arts to other social fields, as well as a biography underwritten by constant mobility within and outside Spain are, ultimately, the main common features that outline the profile of this exhibition

The selection of these artists was made by a jury formed by representatives of renowned prestige in different sectors of the visual arts, including Carlos Delgado , who has carried out, in addition to the curatorship, the design and management of the different activities that will take place on the occasion of the exhibition, which are a way to promote the work of the artists and encourage their access to professional life.

As in the previous edition, thanks to an agreement between the Community of Madrid and the Principality of Asturias, the jury awarded one of the artists, in this case Marián Garrido, a production residency grant at LABoral.

The work produced with this grant will form part of the exhibition Circuitos de Artes Plásticas 2017. Simultaneously with the exhibition at LABoral Centro de Arte in Gijón, a selection of works by the same ten artists will be presented at the Sala Borrón in Oviedo, always linked to the works presented at the Sala de Arte Joven in the Community of Madrid.

Curated by: Carlos Delgado

Participating artists: Colectivo El Banquete, Marián Garrido, José Gómez Jurado, Coco Moya, Antonio Menchen, Rafael Munárriz, Víctor Santamarina, Miguel Sbastida, Julia Varela, Javier Velázquez Cabrero
