The relationship between poetry and ecological thought has been growing in recent decades. Faced with the threat of environmental collapse and evidences such as climate change, loss of biodiversity or accelerated urbanization of the territory, poetic writing is contributing to think of new ways of relating to nature and non-human others.
Following this line of thought, which postulates poetry as a privileged genre to formulate alternatives to the ecosocial crisis, the purpose of this workshop is, on the one hand, to reflect on the possibilities that poetry has for life in the Anthropocene, creating a common framework of inquiry into the relationship between ecology and art; and, on the other hand, to take advantage of the imaginative and radically utopian potential of contemporary poetic practices to project other futures, more just, desirable and livable.
To this end, in the workshop we will undertake an attentive and shared reading of some representative poems of different ecological aesthetics, paying special attention to the way in which they inaugurate novel ways out of the climate crisis.
The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in this historical crossroads, regardless of their background or particular relationship to poetry.
Workshop participants will be able to attend a guided tour of Oliver Ressler's exhibition Barricades in the Ice at 5:00 pm.
