From January 27 to September 9 at LABoral Centro de Arte Barricadas en los hielos, an exhibition by Oliver Ressler, a multimedia artist whose works vindicate the struggle against the climate crisis and collective resistance. Ressler emphasizes in his discourse the importance of artists in the defense of the environment and ecology.
In recent years, people like the 19-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg have flooded our social networks with messages of alarm against climate change. We have seen numerous videos of young people attacking works of art in museums around the globe, throwing mashed potatoes and tomato soup. We have even seen images of teenagers literally gluing themselves to paintings by Goya or Warhol.
Why are young people around the world joining forces against large corporations and institutions? Can the seemingly impossible become achievable through collective action? Are their actions extremist? What role do artists have in climate justice?
In this workshop we will reflect on these and other questions in order to finally materialize our concerns and conclusions. To do so, we will equip ourselves with paint and brushes and create banners, peaceful weapons that will help us to claim and defend that which needs imminent protection.
We recommend that primary school students bring some kind of protection for their clothes, since the workshop will be working with paints.
This workshop will be complemented with a guided tour that will allow us to discover the highlights of the different exhibitions as well as help us to better understand them.
