Ursula Guttman Residency
Transformations of 3D scanned body and animal parts in the fablab.
We highly experience our body as a spot, in which we are caught and where there is no opportunity to escape from it. So we imagine bodies, which take space, which can grow, change, transform and extend.
Through body extensions we wish to communicate and interfere. It is the fight against the limitations we find ourselves in including the limitation of having a mortal body.
Our intimate being bursts out to the public.
Residency :
My aim is to create pieces that open up a peculiar ambiance that stirs sensations, excites a tactile intimacy and evokes awkwardness.
The residency offers a great possibility to work with machines and new tecniques one normally is not able to.
Since quite a long time my fascination is about body extensions..
I plan to do transformations onto 3D scanned body and animal parts.
Some tryouts will be necessary as for example in which application the transformations would be realized the best.
The next step is to do some 3D print outs from these manipulated scans/ files. The technique will depend on the possibilities. And the material as well.
To do them carved in wax offers the opportunity to use them as models for the lost wax tecnique. It s possible to cast them later in different materials.
The idea is to bring the printed out objects back onto the real bodies.
Pieces which don t offer a definite and clear-cut sensation but which are repulsive and appealing, disgusting and attracting at the same time which make you leave and approach with a sense of mutual interplay.
