Residence: Maresia
The project Xixón, ciudad Sonora is Maresia's proposal to create a music map of their city, Gijon, getting its sounds and transforming them, looking the intersections between sound landscape, ambient, IDM, techno or musique concrète
A project to describe spaces and settings in the city, but also to develop the tools and processes that enable the creation of on-site atmospheres, rhythms and melodies based on the sound landscape anywhere at any time.
In a first phase, between March and October 2016, his work has focused on the developments of tools and procedures to create electronic music based on sound landscapes, manipulating the recordings to get certain sounds, turning frequencies into midi data to create melodic lines. Always observing the principle of not using sounds that are foreign to the sound landscapes: synthesisers, samples and libraries, etc. Anything that is heard comes from field recordings in the city.
Maresia continues to try new styles, developing the songs bearing in mind the “location” they refer to, but experimenting with textures and structures such as noise, drones, sequencers... During the following months their work will focus on: Extending the sound map of the city, registering sound landscapes from other zones; developing new ways to work with landscapes to create rhythmical and sound patterns, as well as perfecting the ones already existing and preparing the presentation of the project.
Maresia is made up by Javier (Jahzzar) and Pedro (Hare, Koyaziu, S.U.M Xixón). Their work may be seen at: http://maresiaxixon.tumblr.com
