Residence: Óscar Parisiego
Polluted images is one of the selected projects in the Artistic Residence Calling 2018
Polluted images is a research project about the possibilities of representing enlarged realities thanks to artificial intelligence. These technologies are getting more and more accessible with the use of free software and its growing importance in the future is unquestionable. Óscar Parisiego´s proposal focuses on giving these technologies a new use in the field of ecology, the display of pollution and environmental contamination. The basic idea is to show landscapes on video in which different variables of pollution alter the pictures and the sound providing clear proof of the contamination in a very recreational way.
Parisiego will be monitoring, during 6 months of residence, different strategic places which have been determined previously. The study will center on the industrial belt of Gijón and Avilés, but it will also be considered to include other areas which are far away and less exposed to pollution like beaches, mountains and nature reserves to contrast the results.
The appearance of these images is still unknown, leaving us only with a potential idea of the results. The end result will be influenced by the way the photographs are taken (color/black and white) and the programming algorithms that the pollution variables will shoot. In any case, the final presentation will consist in an installation where a device will show the results of the study that has taken place over those 6 months.
